After nearly five years at the helm of seafood sourcing at Marks & Spencer, Linda Wood has taken on a new challenge — becoming the CEO of Community Catch, a certification initiative aimed at empowering small-scale fisheries and improving their access to global markets.

Unveiled at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Community Catch is a new certification scheme described by Wood as “credible, affordable and accessible,” tailored specifically for fisheries too small to participate in existing schemes. Backed by beta trials in South Africa, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK, the programme is preparing to certify its first fishery later this year.

The initiative, years in the making, is built around eight core principles including biodiversity, labour rights, and community development. With a strong social focus and a tiered membership structure, Community Catch is also pursuing GSSI benchmarking to strengthen global recognition.
