Orkney Creel Fishery becomes the first fishery in the world to receive the Community Catch Standard certification. This is a remarkable accolade for the hard work of local fishing communities in Orkney that have worked so hard to ensure a responsible fishing. After being independently assessed by NSF as an independent Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB), the fishery was deemed to meet both environmental sustainability and social responsibility requirements outlined in the Community Catch Standard.
This is a significant step towards ensuring that small-scale fisheries can now access credible, affordable and accessible certification to gain better market recognition.
The milestone has also garnered international recognition, with coverage in many leading seafood industry media.
