FisherFolkFirst

Description

FisherFolkFirst is a non-profit organization that works to empower small-scale fishers and fish workers to build environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable small-scale fisheries where their rights are respected, their voices are heard, coastal and marine environments are healthy, and fisherfolk have secure prosperous futures. FisherFolkFirst achieves this through outreach and education, implementation, and research, all co-designed with fishers and fish workers themselves. Small-scale fisherfolk have the greatest interdependency with the ocean than any other group of people. Therefore, eradicating poverty in coastal communities, securing social justice for fisherfolk, and conserving marine biodiversity are all inextricably linked. FisherFolkFirst believes that only by working directly with fishers and fish workers can more effective, durable, and equitable solutions be found.
