Fisheries First Ltd. brings more than 25 years of experience in inland freshwater commercial fisheries, with expertise spanning the full spectrum of fisheries management and regulatory systems. Fisheries First Ltd works collaboratively with commercial fishers, associations and co-operatives, Indigenous communities, Chiefs and Councils, fish buyers, food service providers, federal and provincial governments, and a broad range of stakeholders, including academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, recreational angling groups, and commercial tourism outfitters.

Fisheries First Ltd. has extensive knowledge of Canadian inland freshwater fisheries and the legislative and compliance processes that govern their management and allocation among resource users. Fisheries First Ltd. provides leadership in developing and implementing the activities required to obtain and maintain sustainable fisheries certification standards and management practices. This work includes supporting the development of government policy, legislation, and regulations, as well as plans, strategies, and regulatory measures to achieve and maintain certification for sustainable commercial net fishing. Fisheries First Ltd. also prepares Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) action plans and works with fishers to draft stock rebuilding plan options, harvest strategy options with proposed harvest control rules, and fisher logbook templates that include a process for reporting lost fishing gear.

Fisheries First Ltd. brings more than two decades of experience in written and oral communications, including regulation and policy development, research and analysis, management plan preparation, problem solving, report writing, briefing notes, project summaries and proposals, presentation planning and delivery, workshop facilitation, and public relations. This experience includes liaising with a wide range of public- and private-sector stakeholders, as well as establishing and chairing multi-partner and intergovernmental working groups, tables, and committees.

Fisheries First Ltd. can serve as a pathfinder for commercial fisheries development and strategic partnerships, including sustainable fisheries and traceability certification, as well as collaborative stock monitoring programs. Fisheries First Ltd. can also promote sustainable fisheries certification and certified fish originating from inland freshwater commercial fisheries by supporting market development, promotion, and consumer awareness of these fisheries and their fish products.

In addition, Fisheries First Ltd. has significant experience in project administration, monitoring, analysis, and evaluation related to natural resource-based community and regional economic development, commercial fisheries development, and strategic planning initiatives.
